Welcome! My name is Chloe Johnstone and I provide counselling and psychotherapy with the aim of supporting emotional difficulties and aiding in personal development. There may be a number of reasons to come for counselling, it could be an issue which has destroyed what it is to live day to day, or be something that just doesn’t feel quite right and needs addressing. I think we have all had times where we have realised that we need some help or just someone to vent to, who is on our side. I offer a safe place where it is okay to take a moment and have some time for youself and we can also look at specific issues and events which have been causing problems or distress. Counselling can act as a way to open doors and take a look around to see if there is another way of living your life. I am aware that coming for counselling can be daunting and I pride myself in being welcoming, kind and willing to adjust my way of working depending on the needs of my clients. I hope to provide counselling sessions you or your child actually look forward to coming to, where we can really get to know each other over time and work on any issues which are presenting.
I am a fully qualified registered practitioner. My training at Leeds Beckett University is accredited by the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). I am a registered member of the BACP and abide by their code of ethics. The model I am trained in is the Relational Approach. Working in this way encourages the therapy to revolve around the client and what they need in the moment, which often results in my spontaneously borrowing tools from other approaches when it might be useful, such as Solution Focused Therapy, Transactional Analysis and other talking and child friendly therapies where appropriate.
My experience includes working as a counsellor at Bradford Bereavement Support and for ‘Talking Spaces’ and ‘Just B’, which are services run by St Michael’s Hospice, in Harrogate. I also volunteered for Leeds Survivor Led Crisis Service (LSLCS) with their ‘Connect’ service, where I was able to offer over the phone and online support for people in crisis in Leeds. I also support pupils in a part time role in SEN/SILC and mainstream primary and secondary schools.
